Somerset Light Infantry Regimental Tie
The Somerset Light Infantry traces its origins to 1685, raised in the aftermath of the Monmouth Rebellion on the very soil it would go on to defend. As a light infantry regiment, the SLI was trained for speed and fieldcraft — skirmishing ahead of the line, moving fast and shooting accurately. The regiment served with distinction in the Peninsula, at Waterloo, in India, and through both World Wars, including the bitter fighting in Gallipoli and on the Western Front. Amalgamated into the Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry in 1959 and ultimately into the Light Infantry in 1968, their legacy lives on in The Rifles today.
This regimental tie is a fitting tribute to a West Country regiment with over three centuries of service behind it.
