The Black Watch

With roots in the independent Highland companies raised in 1725, the Black Watch became a regiment in 1739 and was later known as the 42nd Regiment of Foot. Its dark tartan and generations of service made it one of Scotland’s most recognised regiments. Today, its name and traditions continue in The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
