The Royal Yeomanry

The Royal Yeomanry is the senior light cavalry regiment of the British Army Reserve — a title that carries both prestige and responsibility. Formed in 1967 from the amalgamation of several historic yeomanry regiments, the Royal Yeomanry draws on a tradition of volunteer cavalry that stretches back to the late 18th century, when yeomanry units were raised across England to provide home defence and internal security during a period of considerable instability.

The yeomanry tradition is one of the most distinctly British institutions in the Army — citizen soldiers, often from landed or professional backgrounds, who trained alongside their regular counterparts and served when called upon. In both World Wars, yeomanry regiments served with distinction in every theatre, from the Western Front and Gallipoli to the Western Desert and Italy.

Today the Royal Yeomanry fulfils a specialist reconnaissance role within the Army Reserve, operating as light cavalry with an emphasis on speed, mobility, and intelligence gathering. Their soldiers deploy on operations worldwide alongside regular Army units, bringing the same professionalism and commitment that has defined the yeomanry for over two centuries.

This tie is for those who serve, have served, or simply understand the value of the volunteer soldier.
