The Royal Corps of Transport
No army moves without its logistics, and from 1965 to 1993 the Royal Corps of Transport was the organisation that made it happen. Formed from the amalgamation of the Royal Army Service Corps' transport functions, the RCT was responsible for moving soldiers, equipment, ammunition, fuel, and supplies by road, rail, air, and sea — across every theatre in which the British Army operated.
During its 28 years of existence, the RCT served in Northern Ireland throughout the Troubles, in the Falklands War of 1982 — where the logistical challenge of sustaining a task force 8,000 miles from home was immense — and in the Gulf, as well as countless NATO exercises and peacekeeping operations. The Corps operated everything from Bedford trucks and helicopters to landing craft and port facilities, making it one of the most operationally diverse corps in the Army.
In 1993, the RCT merged with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, the Army Catering Corps, the Royal Pioneer Corps, and the Postal and Courier Service to form the Royal Logistic Corps. The RCT's colours — blue, red, and white — and its motto, Nil Sine Labore (Nothing Without Labour), live on in the memory of those who served.
This tie is for the drivers, the dispatchers, the port operators, and the air despatchers — the men who kept the Army moving.
