The Royal Corps of Signals
No modern army fights without communications, and the Royal Corps of Signals has been the British Army's nervous system since its formation in 1920. Born from the hard lessons of the First World War — where signallers laid and maintained telephone lines under the heaviest enemy fire, often at the cost of their lives — the Corps was established as a separate arm to give communications the professional standing it had earned.
