The Highland Brigade

Few formations in the British Army have carried themselves with quite the same combination of ferocity and pride as the Highland Brigade. Drawn from the great Highland regiments — including the Black Watch, the Gordon Highlanders, the Seaforth Highlanders, the Cameron Highlanders, and the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders — the Brigade embodied the martial traditions of the Scottish Highlands at their most formidable.

The Brigade saw action across some of the most demanding campaigns of the Victorian era. At the Battle of the Alma in the Crimean War (1854), Highland regiments were among the first to storm the Russian positions. In Egypt (1882), they fought at Tel el-Kebir under Sir Garnet Wolseley in a night march and dawn assault that became a model of Victorian military planning. In the Second Boer War, the Highland Brigade suffered one of its darkest hours at the Battle of Magersfontein (1899), where Major General Andy Wauchope was killed leading his men into a devastating Boer ambush — yet the Brigade regrouped and continued to serve with distinction throughout the campaign.

Their tartan, their pipes, and their colours remain instantly recognisable — and this tie carries those colours with quiet Highland dignity.
