The Fife and Forfar Yeomanry

Raised in 1793 from the counties of Fife and Forfar (now Angus) in eastern Scotland, the Fife and Forfar Yeomanry is one of the oldest yeomanry regiments in the British Army. Originally formed as a home defence cavalry force during the Napoleonic Wars, the regiment went on to serve with distinction across three major conflicts.

In the Second Boer War, the regiment contributed men to the Imperial Yeomanry, gaining their first taste of active service on the South African veldt. In the First World War they served as cavalry before transitioning to a dismounted role, fighting on the Western Front. By the Second World War the regiment had converted to armour, serving as part of the 79th Armoured Division — the famous “Hobart's Funnies” — operating specialised armoured vehicles during the Normandy landings and the subsequent campaign through North-West Europe.

Today the regiment lives on as part of the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry. This tie is a mark of that long and proud Scottish cavalry tradition.
