16th/5th The Queen's Royal Lancers Regimental Tie
The 16th/5th The Queen's Royal Lancers were formed in 1922 from the amalgamation of the 16th The Queen's Lancers and the 5th Royal Irish Lancers, bringing together two cavalry regiments with roots stretching back to 1759 and 1689 respectively.
The 16th Lancers served at Waterloo and throughout the Peninsular War, while the 5th Royal Irish Lancers had a distinguished record in the Boer War and the First World War. Together as the 16th/5th, the regiment served in the Second World War in North Africa and Italy before transitioning to armour in the Cold War era.
The regiment amalgamated with the 17th/21st Lancers in 1993 to form the Queen's Royal Lancers, which itself became The Royal Lancers in 2015 — carrying a lancer tradition spanning over three centuries of British cavalry history.
This regimental tie carries the 16th/5th's colours with the dash and distinction that defined two of the finest lancer regiments in the British Army.
