History.

The Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. G, a variant of the German Panzer IV, was a key medium tank during World War II. Introduced in April 1942, the Ausf. G marked a significant improvement over its predecessors, primarily through its enhanced firepower and armour. One of its notable upgrades was the long-barreled 7.5 cm KwK 40 L/43 gun, which provided superior anti-tank capabilities compared to earlier versions.

The Ausf. G also featured increased frontal armour, reaching up to 80 mm in thickness, enhancing its survivability on the battlefield. These improvements were a response to the escalating encounters with more heavily armoured Soviet tanks on the Eastern Front. Production of the Ausf. G continued until June 1943, with approximately 1,700 units manufactured.

This variant saw extensive combat in various theatres, including the Eastern Front, North Africa, and Western Europe. Its balance of firepower, protection, and mobility made it a formidable opponent and a mainstay in German armoured divisions. Today, the Panzer IV Ausf. G is recognized as a crucial step in the evolution of German tank design.
