History
The BWP-1 is the Polish designation for the Soviet-designed BMP-1, a tracked infantry fighting vehicle introduced in the 1960s. Designed to transport infantry into battle while providing fire support, the BWP-1 combined mobility, armour, and firepower. It features a low profile, amphibious capability, and a 73mm smoothbore gun with an ATGM launcher for anti-tank roles. The vehicle carries up to eight soldiers and offers limited protection against small arms and shrapnel. Poland began producing the BWP-1 under license in the 1970s, making it a key component of Warsaw Pact armoured forces. Though outdated by modern standards, it has seen service in various conflicts and remains in use in some countries today, often modernised or repurposed for support roles and training.
