1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment has been at the sharp end of British military operations for over eight decades — from Aden and the Falklands to Sierra Leone, where in 2000 Operation Barras saw D Squadron SAS and 1 PARA's Pathfinder Platoon rescue hostages held by the West Side Boys in one of the most audacious special forces operations in recent British military history.
