The 1st The Royal Dragoons trace their origins to 1661 — raised first as mounted infantry, then forged into one of Britain's most distinguished heavy cavalry regiments. For over three centuries they served the Crown with distinction, before merging with The Royal Horse Guards to form The Blues and Royals in 1969.
Their record in battle is extraordinary. They served on the Western Front for the entirety of the First World War, and in 1944 played a key role in the Normandy landings — one of the most pivotal moments in modern military history. This is a regiment whose colours were earned in blood and carried with honour.
