History.
The Sukhoi SU-57, NATO reporting name "Felon," is Russia’s first fifth-generation stealth fighter, developed by Sukhoi under the PAK FA programme. Its maiden flight occurred in 2010, and it officially entered limited service with the Russian Aerospace Forces in 2020. Designed to rival the American F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II, the SU-57 combines stealth, supercruise, advanced avionics, and multirole capabilities.
The aircraft incorporates stealth technology and super-manoeuvrability, aided by thrust-vectoring engines and composite materials. Although originally intended to replace older Soviet-era fighters like the SU-27, production has progressed slowly. The SU-57 has seen limited combat testing, reportedly deployed in Syria to evaluate its systems. Despite delays, it remains central to Russia’s vision of future air superiority.
