History.

The Lockheed F-22 Raptor, a fifth-generation fighter aircraft, represents a significant advancement in aerial combat technology. Developed by Lockheed Martin and Boeing for the United States Air Force, the F-22 was conceived during the Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) programme initiated in the 1980s to counter emerging threats and ensure air superiority into the 21st century. The Raptor made its first flight in 1997 and entered service in December 2005.

The F-22 features stealth technology, supercruise capability, advanced avionics, and unmatched maneuverability. Its design integrates a sophisticated sensor suite that enhances situational awareness and lethality, enabling it to engage multiple targets simultaneously. Despite its groundbreaking capabilities, production was limited due to high costs and evolving defense priorities, with only 195 units built before the programme ended in 2011. Nonetheless, the F-22 remains a cornerstone of U.S. air dominance, providing a critical edge in modern combat operations.
