History
The IL-2, one of the most renowned planes of World War II, was originally designed and mass-produced in the Soviet Union starting in 1941. Production of subsequent Il-2 versions ceased just a few years after the war, with approximately 36,000 aircraft built in total. The early versions encountered numerous challenges and were eventually replaced in 1942-43 by Il-2 aircraft featuring a two-man crew, more powerful engines, and reinforced armament. This model showcases the original wing design, which differed significantly from the slightly later IL-2M3 model that featured a more aggressive angle of attack. In the Western world, the plane became popularly known as the "Shturmovik."
