History.
The H.M.C. M8 Scott was a versatile American self-propelled gun, officially designated the 75mm Howitzer Motor Carriage M8. Introduced in 1942 and based on the M5 Stuart light tank chassis, it combined mobility with a 75mm howitzer mounted in an open-topped turret, ideal for providing indirect fire and infantry support. With a top speed of 36 mph and light armour, it was not designed for direct tank battles but for flexible battlefield support. The M8 Scott served extensively in Europe and the Pacific during World War II, proving reliable and adaptable. After the war, many were transferred to allied nations. Several saw combat again during the Vietnam War, used by French and South Vietnamese forces, extending its legacy into Southeast Asia.
