History
The F-117 Nighthawk is a legendary stealth attack aircraft developed by Lockheed Martin for the U.S. Air Force. Introduced in 1983, it was the world’s first operational aircraft designed around stealth technology, making it nearly invisible to radar detection. The Nighthawk featured sharp, angular surfaces that deflected radar waves, along with radar-absorbent materials. Although often called a "stealth fighter," it was primarily used for precision ground attacks. The F-117 gained fame during the Gulf War in 1991, successfully striking heavily defended targets with minimal losses. Despite its success, it was retired in 2008 as newer stealth aircraft like the F-22 Raptor emerged. The F-117 remains an icon of modern warfare and a milestone in aviation history.
